Learning communities

Introduction 

Within the trend of lifelong learning I’m convinced that peer to peer learning is an important and increasing way humans will learn from each other. First of all content is all over the internet and can be found easely. Universities, learning platforms as Udemy or Coursera offer a large range of digital courses  and micro learnings. We follow “Youtubers” or become member of online communities to develop our skills or insights. Especially the growth of learning communities triggers me.

What follows is what I observed by doing several interviews with community managers, community members and 2 focus groups between community members with as topic “How can we facilitate peer to peer learning in online Communities of Practice”.

A conversation ….. about Trust, currency, knowledge

Trust existed before the concept of “currency”. A medium of exchange is a means of conducting less intensive research into those we trade with. “Can we trust them?”

Today’s workplace is between the people. The Workplace is culture.

Last week, Philippe Urbain wrote an article in Bloovi about the changes in a company by Covid19 mainly about the influence on “the workplace”. Remote working became standard and we may evolve towards a hybrid working form, where the employee decides how to work from home, from an office. Today’s workplace is between the people. Todays workplace is ruled by culture.

The workplace has changed, but the workplace strategy has been omitted. Time to change that!

Creativiteit : 24 tinten huidskleur en lego

Vandaag heb ik vernomen dat Sir Ken Robinson op 21 augustus 2020 overleden is. Hij was een geweldig spreker, een verhalen verteller met de nodige humor en tot he point.  Hij vertelde of leren, onderwijs en creativiteit. Laten we deze passies gemeenschappelijk hebben! Ik denk aan mijn pogingen om creatieve brainstormsessies te doen met de studenten… niet evident. De tweede keer gaat het beter… als je hen hebt overtuigd dat er geen foute antwoorden bestaan….

Lockdown and blended education: what do we learn from our digital experience?

But how did the teachers fare? You hear different stories, teachers who are super creative and experimental with digital tools, teacher who are eager to learn, collaborate, innovate… and teachers who do not know how to start with this…

A major pitfall was the lack of knowledge of the technological tools that can be used. That causes great uncertainty for the teacher… can you imagine the teacher’s behavior, a switch to control, being strict, or giving up? Teh support towards teachers wasn’t equal. We saw big differences between schools.

Verlicht egoïst, Staycation & learntech

Vrijdagavond, zonder rond de pot te draaien het was stikheet vandaag! Maar als ik deze avond terug kijk op mijn dag, denk ik “awel gij hebt veel gepresteerd en ‘t was tof!”. Tegelijkertijd vraag ik me af of veel mensen dit kunnen zeggen of ze ook een beetje die verlichte egoïst in zich hebben die ik de laatste tijd echt wel koester.

The USP of the Corporate Anthropologist

Monday, January 6, 2020, I read an interview in Bloovi with colleague corporate anthropologist, Jiske Kramer. Sound fragments immediately come back from my study period: “hmm what are you studying? “What’s that, what’s in it for you? Why do your parents pay for your study? You can’t make money with that, can you? ” “Is that useful?”

And they were partly right… it was not easy to look for a job, especially with little work experience in a crisis period, a while ago. What it was: a very educational experience, which makes me look at the world differently and from which I still reap the benefits every day, certainly within this transforming society.

Organizational structures in nature: swarming, herds or pride

I make a trip today, no anthropology and no, no neurology, … nearly every article I read contains the word neurology or oxytocine. Today I make a trip to the animal kingdom. Yes I know, I am not the only one, certainly not if you consider the emerging growth of systems thinkers. And I’m not a specialist.

I had contact with Fons Feekes, founder of Myna, software that facilitates “swarming”. Not a new concept, no, and yet I advise you to read his white paper about swarm theory, which you can find on the website.  I just made some notes of my thoughts….

Impact van de (Corona) crisis op mens, cultuur en bedrijfscultuur

Corona, crisis, verandering, besmettingen en doden, constante aangepaste grafieken en goede raad… Een globale crisis, zoals corona, heeft een serieuze invloed op de mensen, op de culturen en op organisatieculturen. Zoals iedereen neem ik informatie op, verwerk ik deze en maak mijn eigen beeld en bedenkingen… Als antropologe is observeren en het conceptualiseren hiervan een aangeleerd automatisme, toch kan ik het niet laten om af te sluiten met een stukje persoonlijke droom.

De USP van de Bedrijfsantropoloog

Maandag 6 januari 2020 las ik een interview in Bloovi met collega bedrijfsantropoloog, Jiske Kramer. Direct komen geluidsfragmenten terug van uit mijn studie periode: “hmm wat studeer je? “ Wat is dat, wat heb je daaraan? Waarom betalen je ouders die studie voor je? Daar kan je toch geen geld mee verdienen?” “Is dat wel nuttig?”

En men had voor een stuk gelijk… het was niet evident om een job te zoeken zeker niet met weinig werkervaring in een crisis periode. Wat het wel was: een zeer leerrijk ervaring, die mij anders doet kijken naar de wereld en waar ik elke dag nog de vruchten van pluk zeker binnen deze transformerende maatschappij.
